Science and Religion

“Science is not only compatible with spirituality, it is a profound source of spirituality.”

Carl Sagan

It’s amazing how science and spirituality tie in together. Quantum physics string theory, the law of attraction. Many and more scientists are discovering this truth. The more we learn about the universe, the more spirituality emerges.

I quote Alber Einstein –

“Every one who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the universe – a spirit vastly superior to that of man, and one in the face of which we with our modest powers must feel humble.”

I’ve often heard religious zealots argument for creationism dismissing all that science has learned about the universe. They dismiss Darwin’s theory of evolution; natural selection. The pseudo-scientific intelligent design argues against natural selection. They use evidence from two arguments. The first – Irreducible complexity – is the idea that biological systems shouldn’t be able to evolve by a series of small modifications to existing systems through natural selection. The second – Specified complexity – argues that some of the complex patterns seen in nature are unlikely to occur by chance.

We all know about Darwin’s natural selection: That over vast spans of time, small, random mutations change the lifeform. If the change is beneficial, that lifeform has a better chance of survival. If the change is not beneficial, the lifeform has less chance of survival, and the mutation doesn’t catch on so to speak. To these two groups of people there can only be one way. Their way. The religious believe God created it all. The scientists, that the universe and its lifeforms are evolving. Apparently, there are no religious persons with an interest in science, or any scientists that believe in God.

Honestly, has anyone thought beyond their beliefs long enough to realize that perhaps the universal intelligence that is God created the universe to evolve by natural selection? I believe that God created the creatures of this beautiful planet (including humans) to evolve but not haphazardly, relying on random mutations, but by design. If, as Darwin observed at the Galapagos Islands from the deck of the Beagle, certain creatures that were isolated evolved different features that better helped that species survive, wello, that has God written all over it.

We need to think outside the box, think things over. If you do, you might see that things that you were taught in childhood might make sense, or, just maybe, you see that something else makes more sense.

God created these beautiful minds so we could navigate the universe. Let’s not waste them.

Right action Prevails In My Affairs

“Therefore I say unto you, What things soever you desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”

– Mark 11:24

There could be no more explicit technique for effective prayer than this, laid down by the Master himself. We actually are to believe that we already possess the object of our desire when we ask for it. We are to accept it even as we believe in the harvest that follows the spring planting. Therefore, every spring should be one of hope and every harvest one of fulfillment. We must learn to accept the good we desire and affirm its presence in our experience.

Realizing that there is a Law of Good that governs my affairs, I loose every thought of doubt, fear, or uncertainty and accept the good that I desire here and now. Realizing that this Law of Good not only knows how to create, but must contain within Itself all the details of its own creation, I let go of the need to say how my good shall come and accept the perfect answer today. Feeling a deep sense of gratitude and joy because of this, I live enthusiastically and with calm and happy anticipation of more good yet to come.

And because there is no sense of strain in this, I relax in quiet contentment, while at the same time realizing that what the Law of Good does for me It must do through me. I declare that I not only know what to do but I am impelled to act, to move objectively. I move into a greater sphere of action and life with complete certainty, calm confidence, and limitless trust. Today everything of good in my experience is reanimated, reborn, and increased. Gladly I accept this and place no limit on the Divine Givingness.

Science of Mind #7

I experience the creativity of faith

Faith acts like a law, because it is a law. It is the law of mind in action. When we realize this we no longer feel that we must have faith in ourselves as isolated beings, but, rather, that as human beings we are included in the great Law of Life. Then we can rest in complete confidence that our words , spoken in this faith, are the presence and the power and the activity of the Spirit in us. All effort to make things happen or to concentrate the mind is put aside, and with quiet childlike acceptance we make known our requests with thanksgiving. We are One with God. Nothing can separate us from the Source.

Letting our faith be of God’s Presence and Power we can each say: All that I am, and all that I do, is the Divine Presence expressing Itself through me. The thoughts I think and the words I speak are Life and Truth because God speaks them through me. Of myself I give no authority to my prayer, but the child of God in me knows that the authority of the Almighty brings to pass the words that I speak.

I speak the word of health for my body, my feelings, and my thoughts, knowing that the Father within is the Power that brings this wholeness into complete being. I speak the word of Divine Guidance, and the Wisdom of  the universe wells up as a beacon to lead me into paths of right-use-ness, to make straight and clear my everyday paths. I speak the word of joy, and the Father within frees me from loneliness and sadness. I speak the word of peace to the world and know that the Peace of God reaches into the hearts and minds of the people of all nations.

Rosicrucian Reflections #28

“The mystic knows only too well the value and danger, the goodness and the evil, that lies in the power of mentally creating. We know that if we hold in our minds a picture and give it the vibrations of living possibility, and if we prophetically proclaim that it is to be or will be, we bring it about; we create it in the world of actuality, by transferring it from the world of reality to material manifestation. We know that as each hour of the day passes, the things which we have held in our imagination and which we now allow to pass into the chamber of mental alchemy are likely to be crystallized immediately in earthly form. We must, therefore, be pure minded. We must be pure and holy in our imaginary concepts. We must keep the chamber of mental alchemy so clear and so wholesome and of such a high standard that no evil thought, no evil admission, no unholy concept of our earthly imagination may take form there and grow and be born in the world of actuality.”

Rosicrucian Reflections #16

“You either get bitter or you get better, it’s that simple. You either take what has been dealt to you and to allow it to make you a better person, or you allow it to tear you down. The choice does not belong to fate, it belongs to you.”

-Thich Nhat Hanh

“Cosmic meditation is not an escape but a recourse to a fountain of wisdom. It results in a spiritual influx, the results of which the objective mind can translate into procedures, into useful ways of living. What the mystic receives through such meditation must be passed on to humanity. This is accomplished by transmuting such experiences into material realities, objective knowledge, in which others may indulge. Such revelations are not the mystic’s sole possession, to be filed away as a mere part of a collection of ecstatic experiences. They must be used to help others in their professional and social worlds. In this way do we transmit to humanity what we have received.”

Rosicrucian Reflections #14

“How should a mystic conduct oneself in everyday life? This question is both simple and complex. Being a mystic is to be aware of and shoulder one’s responsibilities in one’s family life, working life, and spiritual life. A thinking, active, responsible mystic does not feed on what is negative and unhealthy. A mystic does not make hasty judgements, and does not condemn without having tried to understand the why and the how of things and events. The mystics attitude is an open one, respecting everyone’s right to be different and to exercise freedom of expression. A mystic is able to give assistance, bring calm, and speak in a compassionate manner to whoever is in need. A mystic accepts philosophically – without becoming disenchanted – the tests that are experienced during one’s life: for a mystic is not exempt from lessons, we just find it a little bit easier to learn them.”

Spiritual Treatments #20

These treatments are from Ernest Holmes’ book ’34 Spiritual Treatments’. Use them as prayer or affirmation. If used as prayer, feel the words as originating from your heart and going to that place inside you that God resides. If used as affirmation, pay close attention to the words and truly believe what you are reading. If you don’t believe in god, substitute the word God for anything you choose and tweak the words to make them work for you.

My Knowledge Of God Is Great

“I can know him who created me. He has planted His Mind within me, and I now discover my own real self. God in me reveals Himself to me.  His peace is now understood by me, and all in-harmony drops away. I am certain of the Divine Order that was prepared for me by His Wisdom. This Order operates in all my affairs today, and my mind is at peace. As I think of the immensity of God, my whole consciousness expands. The unlimited Ideas of the Infinite Mind are mine to discover and use. I know Him who sent me, and I act as His representative on earth. I give His truth to all I meet, and I accept only His Love from those I know. My knowledge of the Truth is growing daily, and my application of the Truth is definite and strong. I never waiver from the right use of my mind. I think Truth, act Truth and bring forth demonstrations of Truth. Today, this is true.”

Rosicrucian Reflections #13

“The time has come when merely reading about the mystical life has lost its value. We must become involved and dedicate our lives to some useful purpose or the opportunities of a cycle will pass us by. Whatever our goal in life, whatever our desires for achievement might be, the mystical life can make these possible. Living in harmony with the cosmic reveals talents and abilities we little realized we possessed, We find that our minds and consciousness are uplifted and charged with a power and desire to succeed in all we do, and our hearts and total beings will be filled with a spiritual love for all humanity. Our thinking will be broader and our sympathies and feeling of compassion will grow stronger. Life will bring greater joys and happiness and we will sense a divine purpose for our mission in life which will bring the greatest gift of all.”

Selections From The World’s Great Wisdom Traditions #2 Voices Of The First World

The True Peace

“The first peace, which is the most important, is that which comes within the souls of men when they realize their relationship, their oneness, with the universe and all its powers, and when they realize that at the center of the universe dwells Wakan-Tanka, and that this center is really everywhere, it is within each of us. This is the real peace, and the others are but reflections of this. The second peace is that which is made between two individuals, and the third is that which is made between two nations. But above all you should understand that there can never be peace between nations until there is first known that true peace, which, as I have often said, is within the souls of men.”

Rosicrucian Reflections #12

“As mystics we do everything we can to cultivate and maintain four primary virtues, and thus warrant being called a mystic: understanding, service, compassion and love. These virtues all flow into one another, and end up merging into a perfect unity and forming one entity, thus moving us closer to the “Rose-Croix” state. But the road is long, and the ascent an arduous one, with its tests like so many stones on the path. Willpower, perseverance, and trust are three further virtues that need to be manifested if we wish to achieve our spiritual elevation. We can do this together under the aegis of the sacred symbol of the Rose-Cross, and thanks to all the experiences – pleasant and unpleasant – that we have already lived through, and will continue to live through. This choice is ours, for we have our free will.”
