How to Solve Problems With Spiritual Help?

Problems are part of human life. None can escape from them. Even when you believe you have no problems, you will still be dealing with them. You may not consider them problems because they may not trouble you, you have become insensitive to them, or you know their solutions inherently and solve them without even thinking about them. Most of the problems that we face in our daily lives can be solved through intelligent effort by

  1. Thinking about them
  2. Analyzing them
  3. Understanding their causes.
  4. Consulting others, if necessary.
  5. Finding solutions
  6. Weighting the consequences
  7. Choosing the best of them

However, this approach, which is rational, scientific and experiential may not always work either because the problem is too complex to understand or because you are unable to decide upon a solution due to uncertainty, fear, or anxiety. Sometimes it is difficult to foresee the consequences of choosing a particular solution because you may not have all the information. Sometimes when you have problems, you cannot easily control your mind and emotions and think clearly. Fear is certainly a limiting problem. The mental blocks and filters people hold in their minds also interfere with their ability to make sound judgments.

When complex problems defy any solutions, what should you do? What is the best option? When your rational mind fails to deliver a solution, you should probably consult your higher mind and tap into its enormous potential. Here are some useful suggestions and techniques to do it.

1. Connect to the Cosmic Consciousness: Sit comfortably in a quiet place, think about the problem, without letting fear or other emotions disturb you, and ask the universe to help you or guide you. Mentally write down the problem on a piece of paper, put it inside a bubble and let it fly away into space. See it in your mind gently rising and floating away into the limitless space with the problem glowing inside and fading away. Wait for a solution to manifest.

2. Connect to your higher intelligence: Before you go to bed, visualize that your mind is a huge lake of fresh water. Mentally write down your problem on a piece of paper and wrap it around a marble stone with the engraving “peace” written in bold letters. Throw the stone with the paper into the lake and gently ask your higher mind for guidance. Watch the ripples created by the stone spreading far and wide in the glistening waters. Wait for a solution to emerge either in a dream or through intuition or by some other means.

3. Connect to your heart center: Sit comfortably in a chair or on a mat. Relax your mind and body with deep breaths. Imagine a ball of golden light glistening in the middle of your chest where you usually feel the emotions. It is your heart center. Let the light absorb all the worry, dark energy and negativity created by the problem. Offer the problem to the golden fire in the heart and seek its help. Express your gratitude and wait for your heart to show the solution. Your heart is where your inner deity presides. It is also the center from where all the pranic channels to the various parts in your body travel. The heart is the final departure place in the body, where all the pranas (sense organs) unite with the soul and leave it at the time of death. You heart knows solutions to all your problems. You need to let it speak to you by paying attention and controlling your mental noise.

4. Connect to your personal deity: Your personal deity is the one whom you love most and frequently worship. It may be any of the several gods, gurus that you worship or the highest God Himself. For this purpose, I usually choose the Divine Mother or Shiva. However, since I worship many deities, at times I also choose others according to my heart’s wish. You may choose any deity you like, but you must perform this with utmost love, sincerity and surrender, with a calm and focused mind. Sit in a comfortable place and chant Aum three or four times loudly or silently, taking deep breaths. Then visualize your personal deity in all his or her glory and glitter as if he in his heavenly abode and you are in his presence. After offering an opening prayer and mental salutations, perform a complete mental worship (manasa puja) before the deity with all the ritual offerings such as water, flowers, incense, fruits, food, light, etc., that you usually make when you perform any worship at your home or in a temple. In the end, present your problem to the deity as clearly as you can and seek his help and guidance. Before you leave his presence and open your eyes express your gratitude and fill your mind with positive feelings as if your prayers are heard and your problem is solved.

When you receive no guidance

In most cases, these four approaches should resolve the problem. The solution may come to you in the form a dream, a sign, a suggestion from someone, a chance meeting, coincidence, or intuition. Sometimes the problem may also resolve itself without any effort on your part. If it does not happen as expected, know that it may be because of your past karmas. Some karmic problems do not go away easily until the karmas that caused them are exhausted fully. Such problems may persist for a long time. When it happens, you have to learn to cultivate tolerance, while continuing your spiritual effort. Sometimes you can mitigate such problems partially by spiritual practices, clearing bad energies, and performing some good karma, such as charity, service and devotional worship. Problems may also arise to teach us valuable lessons. When problems arise, try to see what you can learn from it and what lessons are hidden in it. Sometimes problems go away if you learn the lessons and make necessary changes to your life or behavior.

Rosicrucian Reflections #93

Come, step back from your close view of the obstacles that seem to surround you. Close your eyes to them for a while and create a new picture. Leave the past and the present out of your consideration and make a new life, a new day, beginning with tomorrow. Build it up part by part in your mind and in your conversations and contacts with those around you until you have a perfect picture of the future that is just beyond today’s horizon. Then step forward bravely into this picture; and with determination start your journey along the line that leads to your new life. You will find yourself master of the picture and of those realities, and you will find in it the greatest happiness and rewards, and every effort, every thought devoted to it.”

Meditation

There is a trickling of time in my life

A cascading mountain stream of moments

That connects each spring and fall,

Each blossoming and harvesting.

What will be the colors of my flower

Come next Beltane time?

The answer lies in the ways

That I now prepare the soil

Of my inner garden,

And in how lovingly I water the seeds

From summer’s fruit.

The Blessing

It has been said

That each of us has deep within

The knowledge of all things,

And when we are ready to remember

Then the knowledge is there

To be known.

This is the season of readying,

Of challenging old beliefs

That bind us to the past.

The millennium calls to me

To live the wisdom

Deep within me.

Arise, My spirit

Arise, my spirit, arise and shine. Let your light illumine my path, and let your wisdom direct my way. compel my will to do your bidding, and command my soul to look to you. I will follow you, my spirit, and will learn of you all that I need to know. I will sit in the silence and listen and watch, and I will see your light and hear your voice. I will follow you and will not depart from you, for in you alone is peace. Arise and shine.

Science Of Mind #63

Acceptance

Spiritual mind treatment, or affirmative prayer, really is something we do to ourselves. The only direction we give to this treatment, this prayer, this affirmation of acceptance, is that we identify it with the person we are working for or the condition we wish to help. This is neither willing, concentrating, coercing, nor compelling anything or anyone. It is rather, a quiet inward acceptance, an affirmation of our conviction, based on the theory that there is a spiritual Perfection at the center of all things in the universe and that there is a fundamental Good governing all thinbgs.

There is One Life, that Life is God, that Life is our life now. Consciously we identify ourselves with It, definitely we affirm the One Presence and the One Power operating in, around, and through us. Anything that denies the supremacy of Good is itself but a mistake in judgement. As we come to open up our thought to a greater acknowledgement and acceptance of the Divinity that resides within us, we find ourselves on the pathway to achieving the purpose for which we were created: to express the nature of the Divine, the Source of our being.

Today I accept my own affirmations. There is nothing in me that can contradict them. I have a deep inward sense, feeling, conviction, and complete faith that there is a Power of Good governing everything; that It is governing completely, with absolute certainty, without deviation, without exception and that there is nothing to oppose It, to change It, to limit or circumscribe Its action. I abandon myself to this faith, live in its atmosphere, and accept its conclusion. I know that I am a Divine being on the pathway of an endless self-expression and that the eternal God is my host, now and forevermore.

Spiritual Essays #46

Why is Life Such a Struggle?

by Jayaram V

Why is life such a struggle? Why do you face problems and resistance as you begin to work on something? Why do things seldom run smoothly? Why do things begin to fall into disorder and when we neglect them or do not take any action? What makes changing anything so difficult?

Sat and Asat

The Vedic seers of ancient India thought about this particular aspect of our existence and found an answer. They observed that Reality had two modes: existence and non-existence. They called them sat and asat. They are also known as Real and Unreal, Known and Unknown, Being and Nonbeing, and Manifested and Unmanifested. No one can fathom the nature of non-existence or Asat. How can you draw any conclusions about something that does not exist in the perceptual and mental sense and cannot be reached through any known dimensions? Hence, beyond recognizing its presence, they did not probe into the nature of non-existence.

Nature of Sat

Instead they focused upon existence, Sat, and speculated about its essential nature. They further observed that existence had two modes, order and chaos. Nature, (manifested as the world, the universe and existence itself) was subject to these twin modes, or the duality (dvanda). When the order is missing, chaos would prevail. Existence vacillates between these two modes because of impermanence. They called order Rta, meaning harmony, order, regularity, etc. It is manifested as days and nights, seasons, years, the waxing and waning of the moon, the position of the planets, starts, etc. In contrast, disorder (anrta) denotes weakening of life sustaining forces or absence of willful divine activity.

Niyati

This order and regularity imparts some predictability (niyati) to the whole existence. Because of it you can predict when the summer or the winter will come and how you can deal with the changing seasons and climate. They attributed the cause of this order and regularity to God or Brahman, the Supreme Intelligence of the universe. They believed that the worlds stayed in their spheres and the laws of the existence operated predictably because of the supreme force of God.

Gunas

They further observed that existence was subject to the twin modes of order and chaos because of three operating principles or competing forces. These three forces are found in every aspect of existence. They are hidden in all objects and phenomena, including our very lives. We suffer because of them. We are happy because of them. We live and die because of them. They are responsible for the whole existence, all diversity, and the very manifestation of beings and worlds. Without them existence would recede into a non-active and non-existential mode.

What are these three? They are

  1. The creative, constructive, progressive, building, binding, forward force.
  2. The balancing, upholding, preserving, protecting and supporting force.
  3. The opposing, destructive, dispersive, degrading, retrogressive force.

These three forces are called rajas, sattva and tamas respectively. Diagrammatically, you can represent them as below.

You may now wonder what these three forces have to do with your life. Your entire life is defined by them. You are made up of them, and you make use of them. From the time you are born, you live, act and breathe under their influence. They shape your life, thinking, actions and destiny continuously. You are not free from them even for a moment. They govern your life both in all planes, and even when you are asleep. Metaphorically, you are like a football in the field of life, with the forces of Rajas on one side and those of Tamas on the other, with sattva acting as the referee in between. They are responsible for every emotion, desire, attachment, feeling, thought and action you experience. These forces manifest in creation variously. A few important ones are listed below.

What does all this mean?

It means you have to live your life with the awareness that you have to deal with both the positive and negative aspects of your life and try to achieve balance and stability, without being overwhelmed by them. You cannot escape from life. You cannot escape from problems and suffering. To move forward in life, you must know how to harness the creative forces in you, control the destructive tendencies, and stabilize your life with peace and equanimity. It means your life will be shaped by how you manage the creative and destructive aspects of life and stay in control and balance. It also means you can take nothing for granted, since you have to deal with resistance from tamas the moment you decide to initiate any constructive action. It also means that as soon as you decide to do something, you will set in motion a number of forces that may either assist you, oppose you or support you.

These three forces are responsible for our desires as well as suffering. When you desire to do something in life under the influence of one guna, you will be met with opposition, problems, doubt, and criticism from the other. The quality of tamas is the obstructing or resisting force in Nature. It makes possible the Newton’s law of motion by creating the equal and opposite reaction. You push something and something pushes it back.

Therefore, if you expect that your life will run smoothly you are sadly mistaken. If you intend to do some good expect that there will be resistance and criticism. That is how Nature works. Whatever you do, you will meet with some resistance. If birth is a creative movement caused by rajas, death is the destructive movement caused by tamas. What keeps both of them in balance is sattva, the balancing force. Existence is possible because of these three force only. If you want peace, let the balancing force in you gain strength.
