Rosicrucian Reflections #59 “True humility is not a sign of passivity. It is not a submission to the forces that oppose the essential needs of life, of self. Neither is humility an indication of personal weakness. The humble person realizes that there is no singleness to life. We are not isolated beings any more than a healthy cell is in a multicellular organism. Intelligent restraint so evident in humbleness is recognition of that Greater Self that must be served. This Greater Self is not an abstract, esoteric concept, or, a mere ideal. If humanity is a living social organism, then each human is a cell in that organism, the Greater Self. Aggression exercised solely for the needs of the Individual Self is a malignancy that can destroy the totality upon which all humanity depends. No aggression can advance us so far personally that we no longer need that sympathy and compassion which humility engenders.”

  1. True words.

Yet, the world will needlessly promote the pride, for which, I find to be only ever convenient, not needed, for the most insecure sorts.

We have an entire month dedicated towards a promotion of “pride”. What is next? Why not dedicate an entire month towards greed or lust? Why not do that, to promote the existence of those whose compassion would never be enough, inside of them, to enter towards a mindset of self-sacrifice? Or, to promote the average rapist, who’d go around tearing holes in a woman’s virginity?

People who rely on pride, I believe, are those whose outlook upon themselves is so much lowered, that they have turned to an addictive reliance on external stimulation. They have even forgone even the criticism that should better such insecure people, labelling it as “hateful bigotry”. They demand acceptance, even if no one knows them. Why demand something to be deliberate, like acceptance or love, that should come so natural for any person?

People are strange, in today’s world. They demand things, of others, that should always be offered “when least expected”. Yet, it’s always expected. And, when denied, a person is seen as “hateful”.

It should be the opposite, that when a good friend criticizes you, it was only ever because he or she found it impossible to view you as perfect. Is that not the reason why anybody connects, out of the flaws and imperfections of humanity?

The greatest wound of all, I view to be the gaps between people. It is a gaping wound, that does not close, until people begin to trust that it will.
