Spiritual Treatments #4

“We are Earth people on a spiritual journey to the stars. Our quest, our Earth walk, is to look within, to know who we are, to see that we are connected to all things, that there is no separation, only in the mind.”

-Lakota Seer

Use these treatments as prayers or affirmations. If used as prayer, feel the words as originating from your heart and going to the place inside you that God resides. If used as an affirmation, pay close attention to the words and truly believe what you are reading. If you don’t believe in God, substitute the word God for anything you choose.

“I am a center in God’s Being. It is the pulse of Life in all there is to me. I awaken in that Life now and express it. As a spiritual being through a human mentality in a physical body. In this world today as the person known by my name. My Faith is simple. My Thought is clear. I am creative. I feel not after what I outgrew as I accept this new state to “be” it. I am in no bondage to person, place or thing, neither are they in bondage to me. I grant freedom, hence I am free. I now claim a specific yet free-er self-expression of God’s Life through me: I now am better than well-off financially for I hoard nothing to deny its use. I stamp no human limits on money because my spending keeps the pulse-beat of God’s wealth alive in me. I have now definitely ceased once and for all, to question “how” “what” comes from “where”. The sun rises without my doing. Surely God provides without my assistance.”

Words To Live By #3

The poem “Our Deepest Fear” by American author, activist and spiritual leader Marianne Williamson is often mistaken as part of Nelson Mandela’s inaugural speech, although it does not appear in the speech at all.

This poem shows how powerful we truly are. Read this poem slowly and let its truth sink in.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness

That most frightens us.

We ask ourselves

Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.

Your playing small

Does not serve the world.

There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking

So that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine,

As children do.

We were born to make manifest

The glory of God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us;

It’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,

We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

As we’re liberated from our own fear,

Our presence automatically liberates others.”

“Attitude is a choice. Happiness is a choice. Optimism is a choice. Kindness is a choice. Giving is a choice. Respect is a choice. Whatever choice you make makes you. Choose wisely.”

-Roy T Bennett

Use these treatments as prayers or affirmations. If used as prayer, feel the words as originating from your heart and going to the place inside you that God resides. If used as an affirmation, pay close attention to the words and truly believe what you are reading. If you don’t believe in God, substitute the word God for anything you choose.

“God is all there is. All things are but different expressions of the One Infinite Spirit. The Mind of God created these expressions. The Mind of God created me. I am, therefore, a child of God. Because I am aware of this great truth, I cannot experience pain or suffering. I cannot separate myself from God. Sickness cannot exist because I embrace this realization of my divinity. I affirm now: God is in me as me. The Mind of God in me designed my body. That design is perfect. This Inner Mind built my body and the Inner Physician knows how to keep this body in its designed perfection. I now declare that perfection. In the light of Truth, I see myself as a spiritual being. I see this spiritual being that I am, expressing wealth, wholeness and completion. I exult in the feeling of radiant energy, dynamic vitality and glorious well-being. Gratitude floods my consciousness and I know that it is done.”

Words To Live By #2 – “IF”

‘If’ was written by English Nobel Laureate Rudyard Kipling circa 1895, as a tribute to Leander Starr Jameson. The poem offers – in Kipling’s own words – ” counsels of perfection most easy to give.” The poem also gives fatherly advice to the poets son John.

I decided to include this poem in my series because, even though some of it may seem dated, it still offers some gems of advice to anyone, not just someone’s son.

If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,

Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,

And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream – and not make dreams your master;

If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim;

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster

And treat those two imposters just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings

And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,

And lose, and start again at your beginnings

And never breath a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

To serve your turn long after they are gone,

And so hold on when there is nothing in you

Except the will which says to them: “Hold on!”

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

Or walk with Kings – nor lose the common touch,

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,

If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

With sixty seconds worth of distance run,

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,

And – which is more – You’ll be a man my son!

Is Your Glass Half Full or Half Empty?

“Happiness is not something that can be found by simply looking for it, it’s a mood you create by being positive and seeing the glass as half full instead of half empty.”

-Rashida Rowe

Is your glass half full, or half empty? We’ve all heard this saying in one form or another, after all, it’s a common expression used to show whether a situation is cause for optimism or pessimism. How one looks at the cup shows one’s worldview.

We can go through life with an optimistic, or pessimistic attitude. The comedian Woody Allen sees the glass as half full…but of poison. When asked if his cup is half full or half empty, Sam Lefkowitz replied that he was thankful he had a cup. One day someone showed Alexander Vodorowsky a glass that was half full and asked him if it was half full or half empty, so he drank it. “No more problem,” he said. So, an optimist will tell you the glass is half full; the pessimist, half empty; and the engineer will tell you the glass is twice the size it needs to be.

So we know what the optimist and pessimist sees, but did you know that the Realist says: “Yep, that’s a glass alright”, and the Idealist, when he sees a glass half full of water thinks: “One day cold fusion from a glass of water will provide unlimited energy and end war.” Now, the Capitalist will say: “If I bottled this and gave it a New-Agey sounding name, I could make a fortune. “Where the Communist would believe: “This drink belongs to every single one of us in equal measure.” While the we’re on the subject; the Conspiracist would no doubt say: “The government is fluoridating the water for mind control purposes.” To the Sexist, “The glass isn’t going to refill itself, Honeybun.” While the Nihilist believes that the glass does not exist, and neither does he. And finally, the Opportunist thinks: “There’s a funny T-shirt in here somewhere.”

Okay, sorry. Let’s get serious again. Perceiving that the glass is half full helps keep things in our lives in perspective. Just as the cup can be half full or half empty, at the same time, there are both positives and negatives in many situations.

We can affect, to a degree, how our glass appears to us. as Shakespeare so eloquently put it: “There is nothing good or bad, but thinking makes it so.”

Your view reveals your personality. For many years the field of Psychology  thought ones way of thinking about the glass was hardwired, that there was no way to change personal belief systems. Today psychology disagrees. Studies show that optimism is something that we can learn; just like pessimism. If you keep a journal, look for negative patterns in your writing. If you do have negative patterns, think of ways to replace those negative thoughts and actions with positive ones.

The Power of Positive Thinking

You have the power to control your thoughts; the glass may be half full of water, but the other half is full of air – A full cup! Cognitive Science has proven that positive thinking is a learned trait, the more you practice it, the stronger your neural connections become. Just remember: Whether you see it as half full, or half empty, the glass is refillable.

May God bless and protect you and…

May you always be

Safe and Comfortable

#2 34 Spiritual Treatments

“You draw to you the people and events which resonate with the energy that you are radiating. You attract what you are, so be your best.”    -Lynda Field

You can use these treatments as prayers or affirmations. If used as prayer, feel the words as originating from your heart and going to the place inside you that God resides. If used as an affirmation, pay close attention to the words and truly believe what you are reading. If you don’t believe in God, then substitute the word God for anything you choose.

“Today I am resolved to demonstrate only the good, the true and the beautiful. I turn my attention to my birthright, because I am a child of God. I lift my thoughts to better experiences, I lift my thought to prosperity, and perfect health. I refuse to speak today about my problems, I will speak only about my perfect health, my abundant supply, and my many other blessings. My word shall accomplish that which I please because it is not I, but the father within me who doeth the work. Today I lose myself in the one mind of God. Today I center my thought in his mind and my work flows directly from it. Everything I say today shall be spoken from that “Secret place of the most high.” Today I shall be successful in everything I do. For this, loving Father, I do give thee thanks.”

#4 More Teachings from the Profound Wisdom Traditions

Last year, here in Northern California, we had a wildland fire that destroyed much of the town of Paradise, and killed many. The cause of the fire was determined to be the fault of our local power company Pacific Gas and Electric. The power company was made to pay out many millions of Dollars in damages. As a result, PG&E has the new  policy of turning off the power in areas of extreme fire danger, until that danger passes. We are expecting high winds in many parts of California on the ninth and tenth (Wednesday and Thursday), making the fire danger extreme. As a result, we may not have power here for up to seven days.

We received the warning at the last minute, so I wasn’t able to prepare any blog posts. Unfortunately, this may be the last post for two to seven days. I apologize to my followers. Please bear with me, I cherish you all. So, I’ll leave you with the writings of M G Hawking. Hopefully I’ll see you soon.

“The content of your consciousness awareness is the content of your experience – is what manifests as your outer reality. The inner manifests as the outer. That is it, period. That is the great understanding. That is the only rule. Consciousness creates everything except consciousness. Remember this. Do not forget. Your imagination is your greatest tool. Use it correctly, with implacable discipline. Through your imagination – the thoughts and images you entertain in your mind – you determine the outcomes that you experience, all the outcomes, all the circumstances and events in your life. As long as you know of your own power, as long as you know the experiences and outcomes you desire truly exist and you entertain thoughts and images of only that outcome and nothing else, it will manifest in your experience. No other result is possible. Have you got that?”

Words to live by: Desiderata

I’d like to share this poem by Max Ehrmann, the American writer and poet. This beautiful poem provides a wonderful blueprint to strive for in our daily lives . Desiderata is Latin for “Things desired”. I’ve come across this poem from time to time, as many of you may have. I think this would be great to read daily, before going to bed, or first thing in the morning.

“Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.

Speak you truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.  You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and asperations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful  world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.”

34 Spiritual Treatments #1

“The most impressive spectacle in life is the sight of a virtuous person steadily pursuing his or her course in the midst of vicious people.”

-Aristippus

I recently downloaded a book on my Kindle called “34 Spiritual Treatments” by Ernest Holms, a teacher, writer, and the spiritual leader of the New Thought Movement. These 34 treatments are like prayers or affirmations. I’d like to share them as I’ve found them to be very powerful. So, once or twice a week I’ll publish one of them.

I used to wonder if my prayers were heard, if I was doing it correctly. Then I started paying attention to what I was really saying, trying to imagine the prayer leaving my head and going up somewhere, to heaven I guess. Now I approach prayer a little differently. Instead of trying to send my prayer or thanks out there somewhere, using my brain, I visualize the prayer or thanks as originating from my heart, and not going out in space somewhere, but to wherever it is in me that God resides.

You can use these as prayers, or affirmations, or just read them out of interest. If you don’t believe in God, just substitute the word for something else. Your God may be Allah, or Jehovah, or Mother Nature, or Gaia. Anyway, I really enjoy these treatments and hope you enjoy the series.

I’d like to share the forward to the book first so you can get an idea of Mr. Holmes philosophy. Enjoy!

Forward: Let your good happen.

“The universe responds to the affirmative mind. It cannot say “no” to him whose mind is set on greatness. Let the words of your mouth, the meditations of your heart and the activities of your hands be acceptable to the law of good. You exist in an impersonal universe which, by its own nature, can only produce for you what you command it to demonstrate. Your thought is power. Your feeling is directive force. What you think and feel happens. But, you always stand at the point of control. You can produce what you want, when you want it. God limits no one, and you are free to bring to pass the desires of your heart. He, who created you, wants you to have the fullest life possible. God acts upon your decision. His mind moves upon your desire. His law accepts what you place within It. It is as easy to demonstrate evil as it is to demonstrate good. Ten minutes each day, devoted to clear purpose of good, will cause that good to appear in your world. It is that simple, yet at the same time, it is not easy. Let your good happen by contemplating it as already taking place.”

So now here’s the first treatment. As you read it pay close attention to the words and feel them originating from your heart, and going to that place in you that God resides.

“I now lift my vision and look to God alone for the answer to my every problem. As I look within and through any feeling of inferiority, I behold the all-sufficiency of God. This real self reveals my adequacy under all circumstances. The dignity and serenity of God fills my whole being with an inner awareness of absolute equality with all men. I release all thought of comparison of myself with others; I refuse to think disparagingly of myself or anyone else. That which I am is God individualized in me as me. Because God is all-in-all, within which everything exists, that which I need for perfect self expression-that which I need for the integration of my personality- already exists in Gods thought about me. As I now relax my body and mind, I open the door of my soul to God. There now comes to me whatever strength I require. This is God’s strength flowing in and through me, becoming the strength of my entire being.”

#3 More Teachings From the Profound Wisdom Traditions

“There are no differences but differences of degree between different degrees of difference and no difference.”

-William James

Wow. You probably had to go back and read that a little more slowly to get it, right? I did. That’s the way a lot of the material I’ve read over the years is. When I read such topics as Esoterica, Meta-Physics, Mysticism, and especially Quantum Physics, I really have to take my time to digest some of that knowledge, but it’s worth it, The truth is out there for those who seek it.

Most of the knowledge that M G Hawking – the adventurer, traveler, and writer – has gleaned from his stay in the Himalayas is quite profound but at the same time easy to understand. Here’s number three in my series of his writings:

“Happiness is your natural birthright. Why then are so many unhappy? Unhappiness is a disordered state of mind; happiness is an ordered state of mind; there are many more disordered states than ordered states. You dwell in a disordered state by default and conditioning; you achieve ordered states by process of mind; each condition, event, situation, form and person is brought into your life by your thoughts and the images in your minds eye, which in turn arise from your deepest beliefs. The secrets of happiness are awareness and action, the exercise of energy in a way suited to a man’s nature and circumstances.”
